Time

There are three trees in the painting.

The first tree (foreground) represents the Tree of Good and Evil.

Genesis 2:16-17

¹⁶ And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (For further reading read Genesis 3:1-24).

The second tree is the Tree of Righteousness.

Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the man

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

² but his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

³ He is like a tree

planted by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season,

and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does, he prospers.

There is a rock that anchors the roots of the tree of righteousness.

Psalm 92:12-15

¹² The righteous flourish like the palm tree

and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

¹³ They are planted in the house of the Lord;

they flourish in the courts of our God.

¹⁴ They still bear fruit in old age;

they are ever full of sap and green,

¹⁵ to declare that the Lord is upright;

he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,

my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,

my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

The third tree is the Tree of Life.

Revelation 22:1

22 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

Deuteronomy 32:3-4

³ For I will proclaim the name of the Lord;

ascribe greatness to our God!

⁴ “The Rock, his work is perfect,

for all his ways are justice.

A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,

just and upright is He.
